​Scholarships

Since we began the 33 JordynStrong Foundation in 2018, it has been one of our primary goals to offer three $5,000 scholarships to deserving students. Our scholarships were designed with Jordyn in mind as she LOVED to learn and could not wait for the opportunity to go to college.

Jordyn was a student athlete and knew that the discipline it takes to play at a high level while maintaining and exceeding educational goals is both very demanding and very rewarding. Her intentions, as of eighth grade, were to be an engineer and a writer. It always disappointed her that women in engineering were a rarity and of course that only made her want it more. And of course, we had hoped to be able to celebrate Jordyn’s survivorship… the day she would move into her college dorm would be in the same month of celebrating 3 years in remission. It is important to us that these scholarships, representing Jordyn in a very meaningful way, are able to make an impact on the student recipients and help them realize their potential in higher education.

2021 Scholarship Recipients

Year 2 presented its own set of challenges and with an almost complete shut down of the Foundation’s ability to fundraise, we are so honored by the support we received throughout 2019 and 2020 that allowed us to continue this important program at the same level we did in 2020 - three $5,000 scholarships.  

As the world fought a pandemic that affected every single person in some way or another, high school seniors had to be business as usual.  Managing school, sports, family responsibilities, jobs, and planning for their future while also dealing with positive COVID cases, illness, a remote learning workspace that canceled many of the traditionally held Senior activities, and uncertainty about what would happen from week-to-week, certainly changed how the Class of 2021 looks at a challenge.  The 2021 Scholarship recipients all uphold the character the 33 JordynStrong is seeking to recognize with the Jordyn Myers Annual Scholarship Program - determination, tenacity, enthusiasm, kindness, and strength.  Congratulations Class of 2021.

​Leah Rogers, Canton McKinley Senior High School

JORDYN MYERS STUDENT ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP

Leah is a 2021 McKinley Senior High School honors graduate. She is a very hardworking, kind, and well-rounded person and she has been involved in many different activities throughout high school.  Leah played volleyball for her first three years of high school as well as in middle school as a back row defensive player, earning a varsity letter.  She also played volleyball for clubs and church leagues during the off-seasons. Her senior year, she played on her school's varsity golf team. Being an athlete has been an extremely important part of her life throughout high school, and she has made so many great memories and friends for life through all of the teams she has played on. Her experience as an athlete has given her the confidence and discipline to excel and be successful in school, her future career, and life.  Leah is involved in McKinley High School's student council, National Honor Society, and was Co-President of the Women of Honor club unique to McKinley. She was also involved in the arts, playing violin for 8 years--4 in the high school's orchestra--and held the position of concertmaster her senior year. She was also on the Speech and Debate team.  Leah is also a very strong student. She is a four year academic letter winner at McKinley, an A.P. Scholar, and was named Teen of the Month in the Canton Repository for February of 2021. Her GPA is 4.5469 and she will be graduating Summa Cum Laude from McKinley High School. She has also dedicated over 120 hours of her time to her community as a volunteer throughout high school.  In the fall, Leah will be attending West Virginia University to major in environmental, soil, and water science. 

Leah is very honored and grateful to receive the Jordyn Myers Student Athlete Scholarship.

Molly Oldham, The University of North Carolina, Greensboro

JORDYN MYERS SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIP

Molly Oldham is a sophomore Musical Theater Major at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Molly is also a two time Brain Cancer Warrior, first diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma in August 2019, and relapsing in January 2021. She has been using her voice to amplify the need for awareness and funding around pediatric cancer.  She is extremely grateful of the 33 JordynStrong Foundation awarding her this much needed and most appreciated scholarship. Not only will this help her with her college tuition, but it also relieves the financial stress from the rest of her family as she battles this recurrence. College and cancer is hard enough on its own. 

To have the financial support from families who have come before and understand the plight of college bound cancer warriors is humbling and meaningful to her whole family.

Abigail Washburne, Jackson High School

JORDYN MYERS WOMEN IN ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP

Abigail Washburne is a determined and hard working student who always strives to challenge herself both personally and academically. She has attended Jackson High Schools since kindergarten and has been fortunate to have had numerous teachers and mentors who have poured into her life. In addition to her passion for her math and science courses, Abbi enjoys hiking, working out at the YMCA, running, and baking. She is very excited to be attending the University of Cincinnati in the fall to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering.  Abbi has been involved in the Freshman Mentor program for 2 years, and through this program she learned the importance of peer interactions and strengthened her leadership qualities. Abbi has been a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, and her diploma will include the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish. She has also been a peer tutor and has been a spanish tutor for elementary students for 3 years. In addition to her academic pursuits Abbi is a varsity letter winner in Cross Country and has also participated in Track and Field.  One of Abbi’s greatest characteristics is her desire to make a difference, both in the lives of people around her and the environment in which she lives. Through her volunteer service with Parkrun USA and the YMCA kids running club she has the opportunity to touch lives and through her service to the Stark Parks she is able to do her part to help better her surroundings.

Abbi is humbly grateful and honored to be the recipient of the 2021 Jordyn Myers Women in Engineering Scholarship.

2020 Scholarship Recipients

​Our first year recipients set the bar very high as they are all so deserving of this honor.  We were overwhelmed by the response and the high quality candidates who applied.  It was certainly not an easy decision, however these three stood out for their grit, determination, strength of character, and accomplishments in their high school careers both in and out of the classroom.  Congratulations Class of 2020.

Victor Shott, Jackson High School.

JORDYN MYERS STUDENT ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP

Victor is graduating as part of the class of 2020 from Jackson High School. Victor is an extremely hard working, positive, and fun-loving individual who was involved in numerous activities, clubs, and sports during his four years at JHS. Next year he will be attending The Ohio State University and studying Finance.

In high school, Victor played football and lacrosse and earned six varsity letters. He was a captain on the football team his senior year and earned 1st Team All-Federal League, 1st Team All-Stark County, 1st Team All-Northeast Region, and 2nd Team All-Ohio as an inside Linebacker. Unfortunately he was not able to play his senior lacrosse season, but he earned Honorable Mention All-Region his junior year as a Midfielder. Victor was also a part of The National Honor Society and was a Freshman Mentor. During the summer leading up to his senior year, Victor was selected to attend American Legion’s Buckeye Boys State at Miami (OH) University. Victor will graduate Summa Cum Laude with a 4.1 GPA and with an Honors Diploma.

As Victor finishes this chapter of his life, he is very appreciative of his parents (Bob and Brooke Shott) and all of the coaches, teachers, teammates, friends and positive influences that he has had the blessing of coming in contact with while attending Jackson High School. He feels very fortunate to have grown up in such a great community.

Reyanna Putnam, Johnson C. Smith University.

JORDYN MYERS SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIP

Reyanna Putnam is a freshman at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. She currently holds a 3.9 cumulative grade point average majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. She is the freshman class treasurer, a part of the premedical program, and a MC3 sports intern where she helps facilitate all sporting events. After completing a rigorous freshman year she is now anticipating advancing to a junior status. A major reason that she was able to achieve this goal was because of her determination in school while battling cancer.

At 12 Reyanna was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). At such a young age she maintained a positive attitude that definitely helped her overcome her illness. At 15, just a freshman in high school, she relapsed. This second battle was a different kind of fight. She found a way to keep her head up when all odds were against her. This experience has changed Reyanna’s life forever. It has pushed her to achieve many goals in life.

Her ultimate goal is to become a pediatric oncologist and help save children's lives. While doing so, she wants to start her motivational career to help give people hope and to encourage them to keep fighting. Reyanna is honored to be the first recipient of the 33 JordynStrong Survivor Scholarship.

Kate Bleichrodt, Jackson High School.

JORDYN MYERS WOMEN IN ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Kate is a hard working student that puts maximum effort into everything she does. She enjoys all sports, playing soccer, watching movies, volunteering and exploring new things. She is especially excited to be attending The Ohio State University in the fall to pursue her dream of becoming an engineer.

Kate is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), Math Honor Society and was the Secretary for the Adventure Club. Throughout her years in high school she tutored fellow classmates in math and science, was in Key Club, Math Club, Spanish Club and a member of Student Council. She was also a Lead Freshman Mentor, was a Captain of the Jackson Girls Soccer team where she was voted team MVP and received the team Sportsmanship award her senior year. Kate was nominated for the Federal Leagues Sam DiBlasi Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for Jackson High School and voted Stark County’s female soccer player of the year.

One of the activities Kate is most proud of is her volunteer work with the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank. She organized a food drive for Jackson High School which brought in several tons of food to help restock the pantry of the Food Bank during the Holiday season. She also volunteers at the Stark County Humane Society, annually volunteers at the Pi-Rise Mile Run and Pancake breakfast, and the Long Haul for Hunger event.

Kate is so honored to be receiving the first annual Jordyn Myers Women in Engineering Scholarship.
