Why Fuzzy Socks?
That’s easy… why NOT fuzzy socks?
Jordyn LOVED anything cozy. A great hoodie, worn in sweatpants, and of course, more than anything, fuzzy socks.
When we first started to consider how the Foundation could help cancer patients and their families, Fuzzy Socks quickly came to mind. So in 2018, we began our first campaign as a Foundation and began requesting donations of Fuzzy Socks. The explosion of support, to this day, blew our minds as we had modestly thought, “Wouldn't it be cool if we could collect 500 pairs of socks to donate to Akron Children’s Hospital?” Instead of 500, over 6,000 pairs of socks came to us from all over Northeast Ohio but it didn’t stop there… socks came from Texas, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan… even Alaska. It was incredibly overwhelming. Softball teams collected socks at their tournaments and local businesses, including CarpetTime, Movies 10, and the Serra Auto Group put out Sock Bins across the area to help collect socks. Jackson Middle School and Lake Cable Elementary School event hosted bins and collected a tremendous amounts of socks from kiddos and their families who had been touched by Jordyn or moved by her story. A former hitting instructor, now a Reynoldsburg Police Officer, even collected socks at their local precinct reaching out into their community to support our Fuzzy Sock Drive, in honor of our girl.
Socks were donated to 11 Children’s Hospitals in 5 states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, and Florida.
In 2019, we launched our 2nd Annual Fuzzy Sock Drive and collected 3,300 (of course) socks that were donated to two hospitals before COVID shut down donations and forced socks into storage. Without being able to facilitate a 2020 drive due to safety concerns both with the collection and the donation, in 2021 we are able to pull from our 2019 sock collection to donate Fuzzy Socks once again to the same hospitals we worked with from our 2018 Drive.
We are not currently collecting Fuzzy Socks due to excessive generosity and a surplus of socks in our warehouse. We will let you know when that changes. Thank you for your interest.
If your business would like to receive a bin to help with the collection of Fuzzy Socks this December and January, please reach out to the Foundation at info@33jordynstrong.org or reach out on our Facebook or Instagram pages.
Thank you to all who have donated socks, time, money, or gave us a share on socials for helping make the Fuzzy Sock Drive so successful.
